DIY Healthcare

Posted by Amanda Hehr

Athletes have been doing it for years… Measuring their biometric data in order to improve performance, meet personal goals and help prevent injury. Self-monitoring athletic devices don't negate the need for the professional advice of a coach or therapist, however, they do allow athletes to take a more informed and proactive approach to their sport of choice. One of the biggest trends to come out of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year was 'The Quantified Self'. Consumers are quite simply obsessed with measuring their personal data.

This trend is quickly moving into the medical space, especially since the general consensus is that the medical system itself is in need of a major overhaul and confidence in its current state is low. Patients are more interested than ever in taking their healthcare into their own hands. Enter medical device innovation. When we are able to offer technology that tracks and monitors biometric data, the result is a more involved, empowered and compliant patient, motivated and armed with information to improve outcomes.

We came across a great article in TrendHunter on the Top 10 Innovations in Futuristic Medical Device Technology. Orpyx is hoping to make this list next year with the launch of the SurroSense Rx and the SurroGait Rx!
