Orpyx® CEO Earns ASTech Leaders of Tomorrow Award (2012)
The ASTech Awards are the premiere acknowledgement of scientific and technological achievement in Alberta and are announced at a black-tie gala banquet held annually in Calgary or Edmonton. The awards have grown to encompass more than a dozen distinct categories. Red Herring Top 100 Americas Award Finalist (2012)
Orpyx® Medical Technologies has been selected as a Finalist for Red Herring's Top 100 Americas Award, a prestigious list honoring the year’s most promising private technology ventures from the North American business region.The Red Herring editorial team selected the most
innovative companies from a pool of hundreds from across North America. The
nominees are evaluated on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as
financial performance, technology innovation, quality of management, execution
of strategy, and integration into their respective industries.
Mitacs/IRAP Accelerate Funding Awardee (2012)
This prestigious program offers Masters, PhD and Post-Doc students the opportunity to complete a four-month research-based internship in collaboration with an industrial partner. We are pleased to have received this funding alongside Dr. Reed Ferber and the Running Injury Clinic to help facilitate the Calibration and Proof-of-Principle Testing of the SurroSense Rx™.
TEC Edmonton – VenturePrize Competition (2012)
Orpyx® was honored with the top prize at the TEC Edmonton VenturePrize Awards in the Student Business Plan category. TEC Edmonton is a business service provider, helping transform technologies into business opportunities. The competition included a gamut of impressive technology start-ups from across the province pitching their concepts to a roomful of technology movers and shakers.
Student Technology Innovation Challenge - STIC (2012)
Orpyx® Medical Technologies Inc. took home top honours at this year's Innovate Calgary STIC competition. STIC, an initiative of Innovate Calgary, TEC Edmonton and Alberta Innovates Technology Futures, is an opportunity for Calgary post-secondary students to learn the skills of technology entrepreneurship and apply those skills through a technology business plan competition. A100 “One to Watch” Award (2011)
The A100 is a Canadian, not-for-profit organization comprised of tech entrepreneurs and executives dedicated to helping up-and-coming Albertan entrepreneurs become successful. To date, A100 companies have resulted in $1 billion worth of combined exits. At the Startup Calgary Launch Party, Orpyx® was named A100’s prestigious “One to Watch” Award.
The TECTERRA Award (2011)
At the Startup Calgary Launch party, Orpyx® was named the year’s “Best Geotechnology Startup.” This title was awarded with a $50,000 TECTERRA Commercialization Grant.
The Person’s Case Award (2011) - Dr. Breanne Everett
The “Persons Case” Scholarship was established in 1979 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the “Persons Case”. The scholarship honours the efforts of five Alberta women: Emily Murphy, Louise McKinney, Nellie McClung, Irene Parlby, and Henrietta Muir Edwards; who fought and won the right for the women of Canada to be officially deemed “persons” under the law. Dr. Breanne Everett was awarded the scholarship for 2011, in light of her work with Orpyx®, to facilitate the Executive MBA she is completing through the Haskayne School of Business.
The MPDP Award (Medical Product Development Program, BioAlberta 2012)
We are pleased to announce that Orpyx® has been awarded MPDP Funding for 2012.
“The Medical Product Development Program (MPDP) is administered by BioAlberta and jointly funded by Western Economic Diversification Canada and the Government of Alberta through the Canada-Alberta Western Economic Partnership Agreement. The MPDP helps Alberta companies develop and commercialize new medical devices and applications.”
The NRC-IRAP Youth Award - Marcel Groenland 2012
This Program provides financial assistance to innovative small and medium-sized enterprises in Canada to hire post-secondary science, engineering, technology, business and liberal arts graduates. Graduates work on innovative projects within the small and medium-sized enterprise environment and may participate in research, development and commercialization of technologies. In addition to meeting the needs of innovative small and medium-sized enterprises, this program facilitates the transition of highly skilled young people to a rapidly changing labour market.” This year, engineer, and Orpyx® CTO Marcel Groenland was honoured with the NRC-IRAP Youth Award. He is applying his talents in the development of the SurroSense Rx™ and SurroGait Rx™ devices.

Avenue Magazine Top 40 Under 40 (2012)
Orpyx® CEO, Dr. Breanne Everett, was recognized as one of Avenue Magazine's Top 40 Under 40. When the issue was revealed at an industry gala event at Downtown Calgary's CORE on November 1, 2012, Breanne was surprised to learn that her photo made the cover! Avenue Calgary‘s Top 40 Under 40 celebrates Calgarians under the age of 40 who excel in their respective fields, give back to their community & raise the profile of the city. Read article
TEDxYYC Keynote Speaker Engagement (2012)
“In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TEDlikeexperience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.” Dr. Breanne Everett has been invited to speak as one of TEDxYYC’s keynote speakers at their event on May 25, 2012 at the new Telus Spark. She will be speaking to the topic of medical innovation.
