What's in a name?

We are commonly asked what the name 'Orpyx' means, so we thought this would be a good venue to explain where it originated. Dr. Everett's vision for the company was born out of her clinical experience through her residency in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. She noticed that when it came to patients with peripheral neuropathy, it was not a matter of 'if' they would develop a second or third foot ulceration, it was 'when'. Foot ulcers typically get more serious as peripheral neuropathy progresses. Without normal pain feedback, the patient is unable to detect when damage is being done and a vicious cycle ensues. Self-checking the feet once daily is not an adequate prevention measure. Damage to the feet can occur in as little as 15 minutes.
Dr. Everett thought that she could develop a system that would offer those with diabetic peripheral neuropathy a proxy feedback system, that would enable them to actively, rather than passively manage their condition, and potentially prevent future ulcerations and other dangerous complications.
Orpyx® is an anagram of proxy. Mystery solved!
